Demolition begins of Benton Middle School

If you drive down Forest Street in Benton you may notice something a little different…Benton Middle School is being demolished. The demolition began last week after the school sat empty since the new South Marshall Middle School was completed in fall 2016 consolidating Benton Middle and South Marshall Middle.

The current building was built in 1963 and in 1969, the Benton Independent School District consolidated with Marshall County Schools. Benton Junior High (grades 7 – 9) began in 1974 when the high schools of Benton, North Marshall and South Marshall consolidated into Marshall County High School. In 1988 it became Benton Middle School through May 2016.

Chambers Gymnasium will remain.

Recently, a few employees of Benton Middle School gathered to reminisce and took the opportunity for some photos around the building before demolition began.
