MCHS Speech Team named Team of Distinction at State; Karly Jones third in two events

Karly Jones placed third in the state in two events, Broadcasting and Humorous Interpretation. Karly is a team captain, and this was her third year to compete at the state level.

The Kentucky High School Speech League completed its virtual Senior High School State Speech Tournament on Monday, with Marshall County High School being named a Team of Distinction among competitor schools from all across the state. This recognition is reserved for schools with a strong competitor ranking to team enrollment ratio.

Six students from MCHS competed in the tournament, which took place across several weeks, by recording their performances ahead of time and submitting them to a panel of judges. This was KHSSL’s first online event and also served to mark its 100th year of state competitions, as the first KHSSL statewide debate was held in 1921 with speech events added the next year.

Special congratulations go to Marshall County Speech Team junior Karly Jones (pictured), who placed third in the state in two events: Broadcasting and Humorous Interpretation. Karly is a team captain, and this was her third year to compete at the state level.
