UPDATE: Eastbound I-24 Work Zone at 64 to 69mm in Kentucky moved to Thursday, March 19

Due to rain in the forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday, the start date for this work zone lane restriction along I-24 eastbound from the 64 to 69 mile marker in Kentucky has been moved to Thursday, March 19, 2020. PADUCAH, Ky. (March 14, 2020) — A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) plans to restrict eastbound traffic to one lane along a section of I-24 in Trigg County starting Tuesday, March 17, 2020.

This work zone lane restriction for eastbound I-24 traffic will run from the 64 mile marker extending eastward to mile point 69.7 to allow concrete pavement repairs, drainage improvements, and guardrail upgrades between the U.S. 68 Cadiz Exit 65 Interchange and the Trigg-Christian County line.  All eastbound traffic along this 6-mile section of I-24 will initially move to the left-hand or passing lane.

Eastbound motorists should be alert for slowing and merging traffic as they approach the 64 mile marker.  The traffic configuration along this section of I-24 will change from time to time as work progresses over the next 6 to 8 weeks.

This eastbound work zone lane restriction is part of a larger work zone that includes a westbound lane restriction with centerline barrier wall already established along I-24 from the 64 mile marker to the 52 mile marker in parts of Trigg, Caldwell, and Lyon counties.

Construction of median crossovers for this larger project will require some temporary daytime work zone lane restrictions along the eastbound lanes in the coming weeks with plans for an eastbound traffic shift sometime in April.

Truckers should be aware the westbound work zone includes a maximum 15 ft. load width restriction due to the use of the centerline barrier wall.   There will be marked exit points for westbound loads that exceed this 15 ft. width.   As work progresses and 2-way traffic established, eastbound truckers should be alert for a 12 ft. load width restriction starting sometime in April.

This work zone includes a strictly-enforced 55 mile per hour speed limit with an enhanced enforcement presence.  More than 22,000 vehicles travel this section of Interstate 24 in an average day.  Motorists are asked to use both patience and caution in this work zone through the 2020 construction season.

The contractor will provide updates as a timeline firms up for additional changes in traffic flow configuration.

Hall Contracting of Kentucky is the prime contractor on this $28,090,000 highway improvement project.  The project includes major rehabilitation work along the eastbound lanes of I-24 from the 51 to 65-mile marker, and spot concrete repairs from the 64 to 69 mile marker.  There will be a later phase of concrete pavement repairs along westbound lanes.  The target completion date is November 30, 2020.
