Southbound work zone lane restriction along I-69 in Marshall County starting today

PADUCAH, Ky. (March 4, 2020) — A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has a moving work zone lane restriction along the southbound lanes of Interstate 69 in Marshall County starting today.

This work zone currently runs from about the 40 mile marker to about the 39 mile marker along I-69 southbound between Benton and Mayfield.

This moving work zone is to allow a long-reach trackhoe to use a mechanical brush cutter to clear vegetation from the right of way.  Removing brush will improve safety by providing motorists better visibility of wildlife and other animals attempting to cross the roadway.  It will also improve the visibility of signage near interchanges.

Motorists should be alert for slowing and merging traffic with all southbound traffic moving to the left-hand or passing lane.  This moving work zone will generally be about a mile long and will change locations every few days as the work progresses into Graves County toward Mayfield.  The work zone will be active during daylight hours anytime weather conditions allow over the next couple of months.

The brush-cutting crew will continue working southward from the present location toward the U.S. 45 Mayfield Exit 25 interchange.  The crew will then move over to the northbound lanes and work northward back toward the U.S. 641-Spur Benton Exit 41 interchange.

Appropriate caution is required where equipment, flaggers, and other personnel are along the roadway in close proximity to traffic flow.

KYTC personnel will attempt to provide updates on the location of this work zone from time to time as work progresses.
