Sign crew working along I-24 westbound from 8 to 1mm near Paducah today

Shoulder closure required for installation of new mile markers

PADUCAH, Ky. (Feb. 19, 2020) — A Kentucky Transportation Cabinet sign crew will be working along the westbound shoulder of I-24 from the 8 mile marker to the 1 mile marker through the day today.

The crew will be installing new mile marker signs every 2/10ths of a mile along the westbound lanes starting at 8:30 a.m.  The upgraded mile marker signs will be larger than the existing signs and are designed to help motorists more accurately indicate their location when they have an emergency to report.

The Paducah Police Department, McCracken County Sheriff, and Paducah 911 Call Center had encountered motorists from time to time who were misreporting their location or the location of incidents along I-24 in the immediate Paducah area.  The new mileposts and signs are larger and provide extra information on travel direction to allow motorists to obtain emergency assistance more quickly.

Westbound I-24 motorists should be alert for shoulder closures and occasional lane restrictions through the day, today, and on Thursday, to facilitate installation of the new mile markers.

Appropriate caution is required where equipment, flaggers, and personnel are along the roadway in close proximity to traffic.
