Lady Marshals fall to Webster County 39-37

With a seven point lead in the fourth quarter, the Lady Marshals looked like they were taking control of a game that was tightly contested throughout, but Webster County would finish out the game on an 11-2 run to take a 39-37 win and end Marshall County’s win-streak at nine.

Taking an early 7-2 lead over Webster County, the Lady Trojans went on a 7-0 run led by five points from Adeline McDyer to take their first lead at 9-7. Halle Langhi scored and a 3-pointer from Cayson Conner combined to put the Lady Marshals back up 12-9, the quarter ending on a 12-11 lead after Webster County hit two free throws.

Both teams struggled to find the goal in the second quarter. Webster County out-scoring the Lady Marshals 6-4 to lead 17-16 at halftime. Jada Driver opened the second half with a three and the lead was back to the Lady Marshals. Langhi and Conner both scored to start the third quarter on a 7-0 run and 23-17 lead.

Webster County senior Marissa Austin, the Lady Trogans top shooter from behind the arc, dropped in two threes to tie the game at 25-25 and threes from Driver and Austin finished out the third quarter on a 30-28 Marshall County lead.

Baskets from Langhi and Conner gave the Lady Marshals their largest lead of the game by seven but Webster County would score the next seven points to tie the game at 35-35 with 2:21 left on the clock. Driver put the Lady Marshals back up by two points followed by a three from Katelyn Cates to put the Lady Trojans back up by one. A free throw put them up 39-37 and with three seconds left, a scramble for the ball ended up in the hands of Conner as the final buzzer sounded.

Webster County has won the last nine of 11 games to improve to 13-10. The Lady Marshals are 19-9 and will looking for their 20th win of the season in tonight’s final regular season game at home against Hopkinsville (13-13).
