court-2-2

Curt Curtner said this evening he is “heartbroken” after being told today he was being terminated as Marshall County’s Emergency Management Director effective immediately.  Curtner has served for the past five years in the post, a role he was appointed to by then-interim Judge Executive Chyrill Miller.

“I was honored to be able to provide our county and all surrounding counties with any emergency responses I could assist with and felt like I gave 110% to this agency.  Thanks for all who have supported me over the last five years.” Curtner said.

Shortly after Curtner’s social media announcement he had been terminated, Marshall County Judge Executive Kevin Neal’s office released a statement saying, ” The Emergency Management Director is an appointed position that serves at the pleasure of the County Judge Executive pursuant to KRS 39B.020.”

The release also stated, ““Public safety in Marshall County continues to be of utmost importance for my administration. As advancements in emergency response progress and requirements for more policy implementation becomes necessary to protect our community, we have identified a need for a full time commitment to the Emergency Management department. It is our commitment to always make the safety of our citizens a priority.”

The media release said the county is exploring the possibility of appointing an interim director and indicated details about the position vacancy and hiring process will be announced in the coming days.

Curtner also serves as Deputy Coroner and as a member of the Marshall County Rescue Squad.
