Season in full swing for Marshall County archers

Marshall County’s Archery team competed on Saturday, Jan. 11, in McCracken County’s Mustang Target Shoot held at the Rowton Tennis Center. The team finished third with a score of 3289 (142 tens).

Cameron Thomason had the top result for the MCHS team with a score of 280 (14 tens) to finish 18th overall out of 73 high school boys competing. Harley Alexander finished with the best score for the Marshall County girls and 12th overall among 70 girls in the field. Alexander scored 277 (11 tens).

North Marshall Middle finished second out of six teams with a total score 3176 (25 tens). Their top archer was Maci West who also took first overall out of 63 middle school competitors with a score of 293 (23 tens). West took first in the field of 154 girls at all levels and had the third best overall score in entire field competing.

On Jan. 11, West competed in the S3DA Indoor Regional Shoot in Madisonville as part of the West Kentucky Bowhunters. She took first in the Middle School Olympic Recurve girl’s division.

Christian Jones recorded the second best score for NMMS and placed first among all middle school boys with 290 (20 tens). The score also placed him fourth among the 166 competing at all levels.

South Marshall Middle was led by Bailey Hodge with 272 (11 tens) to finish ninth out of 63 middle school girls. The top SMMS finish among the boys was Memphis Ford with 242 (4 tens), finishing 38th in the boy’s middle school division.

Murray High’s Nicholas Welch was overall top archer with 297 (27 tens). Graves County High School took first with 3411 (209 tens). Trigg County won the Middle School division with 3200 (122 tens).

On the season so far, MCHS took first in the Laker Shoot Out Dec. 14 with a score of 3305 (149 tens) and third in the Dec. 21 Bailey Holt Memorial Archery Tournament with 3289 (142 tens). North Marshall placed first in the Dec. 14 Laker Shoot Out with 3181 (128 tens) and first again in the Bailey Holt Memorial Archery Tournament with 3216 (130 tens). South Marshall competed in the Arrowcat Winter Warm-up on Dec. 14 and placed third with 2850 (59 tens).

All three teams will compete in this weekends Murray New Year Nock Buster.
