Collision claims life of Benton woman

On Wednesday, December 4th, 2019, at approximately 8:57 AM, deputies with the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department responded to the intersection of Old US Hwy 45 and Lebanon Church Road for a reported two vehicle collision with injuries.

The preliminary investigation showed that 47 year old Augusta Holt of Benton, KY, was operating a 2011 Ford Fusion west bound on Lebanon Church Road. Holt attempted to cross Old US Hwy 45 and pulled into the path of a south bound 2000 Freightliner single axel delivery truck operated by 22 year old Jarrett Hines of Boaz, KY.

Within minutes three minutes of the collision an off duty McCracken County Sheriff’s Deputy arrived at the scene and was assisted by local residents in freeing Holt from her vehicle and beginning life-saving measures. Holt and Hines were transported to an area hospital for treatment of their injuries. Holt ultimately succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at Lourdes Hospital a short while later.

The intersection of Old US Hwy 45 and Lebanon Church Road was closed for approximately four hours to facilitate the investigation of the collision and removal of the vehicles.

The McCracken County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene and during the subsequent investigation by the Kentucky State Police, Mercy Regional EMS, Lone Oak/Hendron Fire Department, the McCracken County Coroner’s Office and the Marshall County Coroner’s Office.

Our deepest condolences go out to the Holt family.
