Today is National Coffee with a Cop day, and Marshall County Sheriff’s Office’s first year to take part in the event!  Coffee with a Cop was started by officers at the Hawthorne Police Department in California back in 2011 and the first National Coffee with a Cop day was held on the first Wednesday in October in 2016.  This event is designed to connect the citizens with the officers who serve them in a relaxed setting.  This is an agenda free time to have open dialogue and connect with each other over a hot cup of joe!

Sheriff McGuire said that they had a great turn out for their first Coffee with a Cop event.  They had several people stop by to say hello and grab a cup of coffee, plus they had about a dozen that came in to sit down with the officers with general questions and concerns, which is what this day was about.  Several officers were available throughout the morning to greet customers at Perk and answer any questions they had!  While talking with Corporal Johnson, Major Reynolds, and Deputy Brinkley they mentioned they would like to continue breakfast in the community starting with the eating with the students, which I think is a wonderful idea!  While I was only able to capture five officers in my picture, please note that there were several more there during the four hour window of this amazing event, but I was unable to be there earlier to meet them all.  All in all, it was a successful morning and the officers are already planning their next one!  Captain Jason Lane said that he is planning to do another one in the Spring, and would like to possibly have it in the evening hours so that people could stop by after work.

The officers wanted to be sure thank Parcell’s for hosting Marshall County’s first Coffee with a Cop event and for their wonderful hospitality at Perk Coffee Shop!
