Nimmo, Marshals, back to back region champs!

The Marshals are headed to the state golf tournament for a fifth straight year after winning their second consecutive First Region Championship Tuesday at Calvert City Country Club.

A fifth straight trip to the KHSAA State Golf Championships was the reward for the Marshals Tuesday after winning the First Region Tournament with a team score of 289, 30 strokes better than runner-up McCracken County. The win earned the Marshals back to back regional titles.

“I was very proud today…they all played well”, Head Coach Keith Bell said. “To be a part of it and watch them, the amount of work they put in…preseason and during the summer…it’s been great.”

Jay Nimmo successfully defended his 2018 individual title by taking the win for the second straight year with a 4-under par round of 68. Teammate Tyler Powell joined Nimmo as the only two players under par at Calvert City Country Club, Powell finishing runner-up with a 1-under par 71. Camdyn McLeod shot 74 to finish tied for third and Trey Wall’s round of 76 tied for sixth. Preston Futrell shot 81 to round out the Marshals scoring.

Nimmo said he was excited about the fifth straight trip to state, “I’m excited…it’s fun with the guys… 0ff the course is more fun than on the course. We’ll have fun and hopefully we’ll play some good golf.”

Joining the Marshals in the trip to Bowling Green, the next seven individuals to qualify for state include: Ty Gallimore 74 (Calloway County), Sammy Greenwell 74 (Crittenden County), Rocco Zakutney 76 (St. Mary), Peyton Purvis 76 (St. Mary), Conner Kirkham 77 (McCracken County), Tyler Abernathy 77 (Hickman County) and Grayson Thomas 78 (Trigg County).

Practice rounds at Bowling Green Country Club will take place on Thursday, Oct. 10th and state tournament play will be Friday and Saturday the 11th and 12th.
