Marshals sixth in All-State Championship

Jay Nimmo finished fourth this past weekend in the KGCA All-State Championship at the University Club of Kentucky in Lexington.

Among the top 15 teams in the state and 21 individuals, based on Kentucky Golf Coaches Association All-State points earned throughout the season at high school invitationals, the Marshals teed it up with the state’s best at the University Club of Kentucky.

The Marshals finished sixth in the two-day KGCA All-State Championship with a two-day score of 617 (+45). Trinity finished first with 568 (-4) and St. Xavier second at 569 (-3), both from the 6th Region. Under the new KHSAA rules for 2019 that allows for only each regional champion to advance to state plus the next seven individuals, both teams will not make the state tournament should they finish champion and runner-up of their region.

Jay Nimmo (65-75) led the way for the Marshals finishing in a three-way tie for fourth at 3-under with Rylan Wotherspoon from Cooper and Hayes Mason of Taylor County. Nimmo was among four players with rounds of 65 after the first day in a four-way tie for the lead. Tyler Powell (74-80) finished tied for 39th, Camdyn McLeod (84-74) finished tied at 51st, Trey Wall (82-83) finished tied for 72nd and Preston Futrell (85-83) finished tied for 75th.

Trinity’s John Marshall Butler won the individual title with 13-under (65-65) and second went to Drew Doyle of St. Xavier with 9-under (68-66).

The Marshals will play in the regional tournament on October 1st at Calvert City Country Club.
