For the first time this season, the Marshall County boy’s team shot a team score over 300, but their score of 305 was good for a third place finish at the Franklin-Simpson Wildcat Shootout. Among the strong field of 16 teams, none made it under the 300 mark but Greenwood’s score of 300 earned the team championship while Wayne County placed second with 302.

Jay Nimmo’s one over par 71 tied Chase Wilson of Franklin-Simpson for the second lowest rounds of the day, Nimmo getting second individually following a scorecard playoff. Wayne County’s Gehrig Sexton won medalist honors with an even par round of 70. Scoring for the Marshals behind Nimmo’s 71 – Tyler Powell 77, Camdyn McLeod 77, Trey Wall 80 and Preston Futrell 83.

“Tougher day for our players today as we shot a team score over 300 for the first time this season”, Coach Bell said. “As for our team score…I told the players that if this is our worst team score of the season, it’s going to be a really good season.”

Bell said the team expects to be under 300 every time they play but individuals scores, although not bad, just were not what they have shown in previous tournaments. Bell is most proud of the “never quit” attitude of his players when a round goes bad and they continue to battle.

“The golf course was set up a 6,205 yards (par 70) and it proved to be all the course our players wanted on this day”, Bell said. “Camdyn had a great round thru 13 holes where he was one under par. This all changed on hole 14 where he hit his ball out-of-bounds twice. What I’m most proud of for Camdyn is that he didn’t quit and kept fighting for the remaining holes of the tournament.”

“Tyler grinded out another round of golf where he found himself six over par after nine holes but he stayed composed and played the back nine at one over par. Trey Wall was another player that grinded out a round of golf. He missed several birdie putts by inches.”

“Jay’s round started with six straight pars then a birdie and finished the front nine at one under. On the back he grinded out at a two over par which resulted in a score of 71. He scrambled for several of those early pars but then settled down and played some very good golf”

“Preston Futrell also had a rough start but on his sixth hole things begin to change for the positive and he had a stretch of four pars.”

The Marshals are currently ranked 11th in the Kentucky Golf Coaches Association (KGCA) points standings. Nimmo is ranked 10th individually and Powell is 25th.

The Marshals and Lady Marshals will host the annual Marshall County Invitational Saturday, August 31, at Calvert City Country Club. The girl’s will tee off at 7:30 am, boy’s will tee off a 1:00 pm.
