Sunday evening storms push West Kentucky RECC outage numbers up

(Mayfield, Ky.) June 23, 2019 (5:30 p.m.) — West Kentucky Rural Electric Cooperative Corporation had restored most of the 13,000 power outages resulting from last Friday’s severe storms when a new weather system swept across the service area around 5 p.m. Sunday and outage numbers again increased sharply.

“Total outages were down to around 275 members Sunday afternoon, but now we are back up to more than 2,000 members without power,” said West Kentucky RECC Operations Manager Michael Evans. The new outages came quickly, Evans said, and many of them appear to be tied to weather-related problems at the Edrington and Hickory Grove substations.

Crews are continuing to restore outages and will be working through the night and again on Monday. “We will be working until everyone is back on,” Evans said.
