On June 19, 2019, the Leadership Marshall County program facilitated by the Kentucky Lake Chamber of Commerce conducted its graduation ceremony at the Chamber’s Biscuits & Business Breakfast held at Harbor Lights Restaurant in Kentucky Dam Village State Park. This is Leadership Marshall County’s fifth class to graduate after the resurrection of the program by the Chamber back in 2011. All ten of this year’s participants in the program fulfilled the obligations and requirements necessary to graduate, which were accumulated over the nine months of the program through participation in the full day outings as well as acquiring volunteer points through various activities done on their own time.
At the Chamber breakfast, each individual was presented with an award, plus each provided comments on their experience with the program. Those participating in the program and graduating were: Jessica Adams – Marketing Director at Lake Chem Community Federal Credit Union, Dallas Jo Young – Team Leader for the Business Development team at CFSB, Kayla Wallace Todd – Risk Advisor for Peel & Holland, Inc., Bryson Gibbs – Store Manager at Draffenville’s Gateway Shop-O-Rama, Cathy Thompson – Financial Director at the Marshall County Health Department, Brent Powell – Manager of Industrial Accounts for Tennessee Valley Authority(TVA), Elizabeth Rohrer – Consumer Lending & Collections for Lake Chem Community Federal Credit Union, Brittany Story – Office Manager and Consumer Lender for Heritage Bank in Calvert City, Jacob Puckett – Salesperson for United Systems & Software, and Stephanie Trexler – Human Resources Director at Purchase Youth Village.
Leadership Marshall County is an educational program offered to persons residing or working in Marshall County. The purpose of the program is to assist in the development of personal and career-oriented leadership potential existing in our community. This is accomplished by exposing participants to as many facets of the community as possible to familiarize them with resources, organizations and entities that shape Marshall County. Each monthly session of the program provides an in-depth look at topics such as: law/corrections, healthcare, county and state government, tourism, economic development, agriculture, education, and transportation.
“Our initial goal of the program is to provide more in-depth information to the participants about different components that make up Marshall County, but the ultimate goal is to foster in them a desire to become more active members in helping to improve and direct the future growth and development of our community,” said Debbie Buchanan, Director of the Kentucky Lake Chamber of Commerce. “We have always had a great group of individuals each year who not only learned a great deal more about our community, but they also develop relationships and friendships that might not have ever occurred otherwise.”
The Chamber plans to get on an every other year schedule of offering this program, therefore will begin taking applications in May or June of 2020 for the next class.
