Saturday at the University of Louisville, 178 middle school track teams from across the state competed in the KTCCCA Middle School State Championship. Teams from North Marshall Middle and South Marshall Middle competed, turning in many great results, including eight top 10’s.
Ethan McCarty led in top finishes for North Marshall, placing second in the 1600 meters (4:46.23) and fifth in the 3200 meters (10:48.74). McCarty is currently ranked second in the state in the 1600 and eighth in the 3200 among all middle school ages and ranks 13th in the nation in the 1600.
Joey Colley recorded the top finish for South Marshall with a second place in shot put (46-08) and eighth in discus (123-04). Colley ranks first in Kentucky in shot and 10th in discus. Aiden Dunigan placed fourth in the triple jump (37-05.25). Dunigan currently ranks 4th among Kentucky middle schoolers in triple jump and first in the seventh grade level.
Rounding out top 10 finishes from South Marshall, both the girl’s and boy’s 4 x 100 relay teams placed ninth and the boy’s 4 x 200 relay finished seventh.
