Samuel Woodford, 87

Captain Samuel Owen Woodford, 87, of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, formerly of Paducah, passed away at 3:56 P.M. Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at Hardin Memorial Hospital.

Samuel was born in Savannah, Tennessee on January 3, 1932 to Clyde and Bert Woodford. Sam never met a stranger and loved telling a good story. His family was always his highest priority, but the river ran a close second. He was a retired Riverboat Captain and known as Captain Sam to many who knew him.

Mr. Woodford is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Lou Watters Woodford; his daughters, Carla Hammond, of Trenton, Ohio and Tammy Romans (Roger), of Elizabethtown; his sons, Samuel O. Woodford, Jr. (Lu Ann) and Michael Dan Woodford, all of Elizabethtown; nine grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren as well as several beloved nieces and nephews.

Mr. Woodford was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Woodford and Bert Taylor Woodford; his brothers, Carl, Joe and Bill and his sisters, Hester and Mary Ann.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 A.M. Friday, May 24, 2019 at the Lone Oak Chapel of Milner & Orr Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Kineman officiating. Burial will follow at Lovelaceville Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5-8:00 P.M. Thursday, May 23, 2019 at the Lone Oak Chapel.
