Lady Marshals win final three of regular season, play CFS Monday in District Tournament

Cayson Conner’s two-run single lifted the Lady Marshals to a 4-2 win over Caldwell County in the 10th inning Thursday.

The Lady Marshals finished 3-1 in their final four games of the regular season to finish 22-13 before heading into Monday’s District Tournament semi-final against Christian Fellowship. On Thursday the Lady Marshals lost 3-1 to #4 Christian County before following it up with three wins over Caldwell County, Green County and Webster County..

Against Christian County Thursday, tied 1-1 until the sixth inning, the Lady Colonels scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth for the win on five hits. Marshall County was led by Cayson Conner who was three for three at the plate and Mckenzie Elkins who led off the third inning with a double. Hannah Sumner earned the win for Christian County in seven innings on the mound, allowing four hits and one run.


Friday at Caldwell County, the Lady Marshals won 4-2 in 10 innings on 10 hits. The game was tied 2-2 after the seventh which sent it into extra innings. The Lady Marshals scored two runs in the 10th, both coming in on a single by Cayson Conner.

Riley Piercefield was two for five at the plate with a dougle and RBI. Presley Jezik and Addie Young both hit doubles and the win went to Gabbi Lovett who went seven innings on the mound, allowing four hits and one run.


Two games on Saturday began with a 12-2 win on 13 hits over Green County. Gracey Murt was two for three at the plate with a three-run homer in the bottom of the fourth that put the Lady Marshals up 6-1. Layne Pea had three hits and three RBI’s along with two hits from Presley Jezik including a double and four RBI’s. Gracey Murt earned the win on the mound in two and two-thirds innings, allowing three hits and one run.


In their second game on Saturday, one run in the top of the first was enough for the #20 Lady Marshals 1-0 win over Webster County. The one run was brought in on a double by Addie Young. Lovett picked up the win in five and two-thirds innings with Murt taking the mound in the final inning to combine for the shut-out win over #9 Webster County.

First pitch in the District Tournament semi-final game against CFS is at 7 p.m. at Murray Middle School.
