MCHS Students Selected for the Governor’s School for the Arts

(L-R) Karly Jones and Chelsea Erbacher

Marshall County High School is proud to announce that one MCHS student has been selected to attend the Governor’s School for the Arts (GSA) this summer at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, KY, and another has been selected as an alternate for the program.

Congratulations are in order for Chelsea Erbacher, a junior, and GSA alternate Karly Jones, a sophomore. Erbacher will be attending the program for Architecture + Design; Jones is an alternate for the Musical Theatre program.

The GSA Summer Program offers 3 weeks of intensive instruction in nine artistic disciplines: architecture + design, creative writing, dance, drama, instrumental music, musical theatre, new media, visual art, and vocal music.
Applying to the program is a feat in itself: acceptance is determined by an initial application and recommendations, followed by a final round of auditions and reviews. This year, out of over 1400 applications, 629 individuals were qualified to showcase their work in person, and 256 were selected to participate in the program.

Students participating in the program are immersed in a rigorous schedule of daily seminars, master classes, lectures, hands-on workshops and field trips. While each student specializes in one art form, all students participate in structured, interdisciplinary arts experiences designed to familiarize them with the joys and challenges of specialties other than their own. Summer program participants receive full tuition, room and board.

The Marshall County School District would like to commend these talented and committed young women for their achievement. We wish them every continued success in their craft, and in life!
