Lady Marshals follow loss to Madisonville with two district wins

Riley Piercefield behind the plate for the Lady Marshals, in the last three games has gone 6/10 at the plate, hitting a double with four RBI’s.

The Lady Marshals lost to #17 Madisonville-North Hopkins Friday but led 2-0 early in the game, with a second inning that began on singles by Addie Young and Riley Piercefield,  the two advancing to second and third on an error. A sacrifice bunt by Cayson Conner scored the first run with Sarah Stokes, running for Piercefield, scoring the second on a passed ball by the Madisonville catcher.

The Lady Maroons tied it in the top of the third, scoring on a double by Courtney Peyton and single by Zoe Davis. Two solo home runs off of bats of Mykayla Spurlin in the fourth inning and Peyton in the fifth led Madisonville to a 4-2 win on nine hits.

Courtney Patterson pitched the seven inning win for Madisonville, allowing five hits, two runs and struck out six.

The Lady Marshals picked up two district wins Monday and Tuesday over Calloway County and Murray to improve to 5-0 in the 4th District and earn the number one seed in the district tournament.

Monday against Calloway County, the Lady Marshals beat the Lady Lakers 15-0 in three innings on 14 hits. Gabbi Lovett pitched the 3-inning shutout.

A 7-run first inning began on singles by Conner and Gracey Murt followed by a Presley Jezik double that brought the two to home plate. Piercefield drove in a run, two runs scored on a single by McKenzie Elkins and the seventh by Sarenna Tomassi.

Three runs scored in the second inning after the bases were loaded on a single by Murt and walks from Jezik and Young. Bases loaded walks by Layne Pea and Kinley Edwards and Tomassi hit at the plate by a pitch gave the Lady Marshals a 10-0 lead.

Five runs in the third inning came on a 2-run single by Young, sacrifice by Savannah Hairgrove and 2-run double from Edwards for the 15-0 win.

Tuesday’s 9-1 win over Murray on 13 hits began in the first inning when Conner scored on a Jezik sacrifice fly. Murray tied the game in the third on a single by Emily Dawson.

Marshall County put together two 4-run innings starting in the fifth, the four runs scoring on a single by Murt, Jezik bunt and 2-run double by Piercefield. The four runs in the sixth were scored on a 2-run inside the park homer by Tomassi, Piercefield single and the final run scoring on an error.

Gracey Murt pitched the win, allowing five hits, one run while striking out five in five innings on the mound with Lovett picking up the save.
