Seniors Young and Murt honored before Friday’s first pitch

The Lady Marshals honored their two seniors before Friday’s game against Madisonville-North Hopkins. Left, Addie Young with her parents Julie and Jackie Young and Gracey Murt, along with her mom Tiffany Murt and grandfather Keith Murt.

Two top 20 teams faced each other Friday at MCHS, the #20 Lady Marshals took on #18 Madisonville-North Hopkins, on an evening Marshall County celebrated their seniors Addie Young and Gracey Murt. Both talented seniors are continuing their softball careers at the next level, Young at Cambellsville University and Murt at Murray State University.

The Lady Maroons came out on top 4-2 after trailing the Lady Marshals 2-0 after two innings. In the bottom of the second, singles by Young and Riley Piercefield set up the Lady Marshals only two runs in the game, coming on a sacrifice by Cayson Conner and Sarah Stokes scoring when Madisonville catcher Mykayla Spurlin lost control of the ball.

Madisonville evened the game up in the top of the third on a double by Courtney Peyton and single from Zoe Davis. The Lady Maroons hit two solo home runs in the fourth and fifth innings, the first off the bat of Spurlin over the left field fence and the second was knocked over center field by Courtney Peyton for the 4-2 win.

Courtney Peyton led the Lady Maroons with a double, home run and two RBI’s and the win on the mound went to Courtney Patterson in seven innings, striking out six while allowing two runs and five hits.

The Lady Marshals will play a district game at home on Monday against Calloway County at 5:30, originally scheduled for Thursday.
