James Baker, 83

Mr. James Lawson “Jim” Baker, age 83, of Murray, Kentucky died Saturday, April 20, 2019 at Baptist Health in Paducah, Kentucky.

Mr. Baker was born in New, Kentucky on December 11, 1935 to the late Salin Henry Baker and Nellie (Ellis) Baker. Mr. Baker retired from General Tire after 30+ years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and was an Army 101st Airborne veteran.

In addition to his parents Mr. Baker was preceded in death by four brothers, Salin Henry Baker, Jr., Alvin Thomas Baker, Benny Gene Baker, and Don Ellis Baker; and by one sister, Doris Baker Powell.

Mr. Baker is survived by his wife, Janice (Langston) Baker of Murray, Kentucky, whom he married on June 8, 1958 in Hazel, Kentucky; two daughters, Shaun (Baker) Barrow and husband Steve and Stefane (Baker) Bradley all of Murray, Kentucky; one son, James “Jimmy” Baker, Jr. of Murray, Kentucky; one sister, Helen (Baker) Hall and husband Harold of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky; one sister-in-law, Barbara Rodrigues and husband Bart of Oak Ridge, Tennessee; one brother, Billy Howard Baker and wife June of Versailles, Kentucky; seven grandchildren, Brytani (Darnell) Johnson, Seth Baker Darnell and wife Robyn, Blair (Darnell) Gray and husband Cody, Christopher Noel Bradley and wife Nuriya, McKenzie (Bradley) Lawson and husband Carver, Tracy Lynn Nichols, and Candace Marie Barrow; as well as five great-grandchildren, Lily Faith Johnson, Colton Zane Johnson, Dex Ryan Darnell, Cash Baker Darnell, and Samuel Carter Bradley.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home with Rev. Keith Inman officiating. Burial will follow in Murray Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the American Legion Post #73.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home.
