Marshals pick up wins over St. Mary, Graves County

Tyler Belcher was three for seven in two games this week with a single, two doubles and three RBI’s.

The 5-1 Marshals head southeast this weekend for games in Knoxville, Tenn. after two nice wins this week over St. Mary and Graves County. On their way to the east coast, the Marshals will stop for two games in Knoxville Saturday, taking on Northwest (Clarksville) at 9:00 a.m. followed by an 11:00 a.m. game against West (Knoxville). From there, they travel on to Myrtle Beach, SC to play games at the Cal Ripken Experience. They will meet four Kentucky teams including North Bullitt, Eastern, Ashland Blazer and Russell.

The Marshals hosted St. Mary Tuesday, winning 10-0 in five innings on 11 hits. Scoring began in the first inning on a Skylar Brown single that brought in two runs and a run scored in the second inning off a C.J. Johnson bunt.

Austin Stockdale opened the 6-run bottom of the fourth with a solo home run with five more runs scoring on a bases loaded walk by Tyler Belcher, Brown single, Jordan Riley sacrifice and back around to Stockdale who brought in a run on a ground ball for a 9-0 lead.

The 10-0 shut out came in the bottom of the fifth with one out on a bases loaded walk by Jacob Landis. Riley Harris pitched the five-inning win, giving up two hits, no runs with eight strike-outs.

Marshall County scored four runs right out of the gate against Graves County Thursday, two coming off a double by Brown and singles by Riley and Isiah Neeble. The Eagles put up their first run in the second on an error off a ground ball by Connor Mills.

The Marshals took a 10-1 lead in the top of the fourth, the 6-run inning coming on a ground ball by Cole Griggs, wild pitch, a 2-run double by Belcher and a single by Brown. Not going away, the Eagles scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth on a double from Mills, Chase Carrico single and ground ball from Jordyn Naranjo into a double-play for the Marshals with Mills scoring from third.

Two more runs for the Marshals came in the top of the fifth on a single by Johnson for a 12-4 lead. They went up 14-4 in the top of the sixth, scoring on a couple of Graves County errors, looking like they would cruise to victory but two more runs from the Eagles cut it to 14-6.

In their final time at the plate, the Eagles scored four runs, three on a triple by Naranjo and a sacrifice by Taylor Goodwin, leaving two base runners stranded on the final out.

Nine combined pitchers made appearances on the mound, the win going to Weston Harper in four innings, allowing five hits and four runs.
