Library Director Kristi Tucker chosen as winner of Kentucky’s 2019 Outstanding Public Library Service Award

Each year the Kentucky Public Library Association chooses a recipient for their Outstanding Service Award. This year at the KPLA awards luncheon, Marshall County Public Library Director Kristi Tucker was nominated by her staff and chosen by the KPLA Awards Committee to receive this award.

This prestigious award recognizes the contribution of a library administrator whose career has exemplified a combination of excellence in local service with libraries on a regional or broader basis. A nominee that has been active in many facets of public library service and one who has shown community involvement on various levels.

“We believe Kristi‘s exceptional leadership and tireless efforts in advocating for public libraries throughout the years made her a prime candidate for this award,” says Marshall County Public Library @ Calvert City Branch Manager Tammy Blackwell. “The role of public libraries is constantly changing and Kristi has always led the way in adapting to those changes.”

Tucker began her career as library director in 1997 and has been a part of many changes throughout her years of service in the position. She has also participated on multiple boards and committees at a local and state level during her time as director.

Benton Branch Manager Lenisa Jones says, “Our community and its needs have grown and changed many times over the years. Kristi has made certain that our library system has grown and adapted to keep up with those changes. She has proven the importance and value of library branches in our community and been the push behind construction projects that otherwise may not have happened.”

The Outstanding Public Library Service Award is chosen by nominations who meet criteria based on service that has impacted libraries on a regional or statewide level.
