CFS softball off to early 4-1 start to 2019 season

Christian Fellowship’s Lady Eagles softball team are off to a 4-1 start this season, their one loss against Calloway County in their second game of the 2019 season. They are coming off their most successful season since reinstating softball in 2014, last year finishing 15-7.  Monday against Mayfield, the Lady Eagles won 13-10 then fell 16-0 to Calloway followed by three straight wins over Fulton City on Thursday, and winning both in a double-header with Fort Campbell on Friday.

In their season-opener against Mayfield, the Lady Cardinals scored three runs in their first at bat and the Lady Eagles followed that up with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first, scoring on a ground out by Rachel Howard. Mayfield scored four runs in the top of the second on two bases loaded walks, a Desiree Thomas single and ground out by Maleah Thompson.

Trailing 7-2, the CFS bats got to work in the bottom of the second inning, scoring seven runs on singles by Jayden and Jaycie Jackson, ground out by Edie Little, 2-run double by Howard, error and a single by Maddie Irvan to take a 9-7 lead. The Lady Eagles never trailed again despite a 2-run effort by the Lady Cardinals in the top of the sixth.

Both teams combined for 26 hits in the game. Jaycie Jackson got the win on the mound in seven innings, allowing 11 hits and 10 runs.

Senior Rachel Howard, at the plate against Fort Campbell, hit a single, double and brought in five runs in the Lady Eagles 17-1 win in the second game of Friday’s double-header.

With their move back into 4th District competition this season, CFS played their first district game Thursday against Calloway County, falling 15-0 in four innings. Calloway County’s Jaelyn Phillips picked up the no-hitter win. The Lady Lakers big 11-run bottom of the first inning was the result of an error, bases loaded walks and highlighted by a double from Paige Kramer.

A ground out by Jaycie Jackson, error and 2-run single by Sarah Zamaba for a 4-0 first inning lead, kicked off a steady and productive four innings for the Lady Eagles in their 16-1 four inning win over Fulton City on Thursday. Abigail Cima led the hitters with two doubles and two RBI’s along with Jaycie Jackson who had two singles and two RBI’s. Jaycie Jackson allowed three hits and one run in her four innings on the mound.

CFS wrapped up a successful first week of the 2019 softball season with a double-header win Friday over Fort Campbell. They won the first game 12-2 on 10 hits, led at the plate by Jayden Jackson with two singles and a double, Jaycie Jackson with a couple of singles and two RBI’s and Edie Little with two singles and an RBI.

In the second game of the double-header, CFS won 17-1 in four innings on nine hits. Leading 7-1 going into the fourth inning, CFS scored 10 runs on a double by Irvan, wild pitch, Zamaba single, 3-run homer by Zailey McClain, 2-run single from Jaycie Jackson and finally a 2-run single by Howard.
