Work Zone Lane Restriction on I-24 at 33.8mm on Tuesday, Thursday & Friday, March 12, 14 & 15

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans a daytime lane restriction along Interstate 24 near the 33 mile marker starting Tuesday, March 12, 2019.

Interstate 24 traffic will be restricted to one lane on the Cumberland River Bridge at the Livingston-Lyon County Line to allow a detailed inspection of the bridge structure at milepoint 33.88.

The inspection team plans an eastbound work zone lane restriction on Tuesday and a westbound work zone lane restriction on Thursday.  The inspection team will use Friday to finish out any inspection efforts that are not completed on Tuesday or Thursday.

All traffic will move to the left-hand or passing lane in this work zone between approximately 8:00 a.m., CT, and 3:00 p.m., each day.

Motorists should be alert for slowing and merging traffic as they approach this work zone on the I-24 Cumberland River Bridge between the KY 453 Grand Rivers Exit 31 and the US 62 Eddyville-Kuttawa Exit 40 interchange.

All bridges in Kentucky get a detailed inspection every two years.  Long-span river and lake bridges get an additional walk-through inspection annually.

The Interstate 24 CUMBERLAND River Bridge, which also carries Interstate 69, is a twin continuous plate girder structure that opened to traffic in 1977.  The 1,731ft. twin structures with a  420 ft. main span, also known as the Ralph Smith Bridge, are located at the Livingston-Lyon County Line at I-24 mile point 33.88.  The structures carry approximately 29,000 vehicles across the Cumberland River in an average day.

The I-24 Cumberland River Bridge is at Cumberland River navigation milepoint 27.2.
