Road Closure on Hwy 60 between Burna and Smithland

US 60 at 16mm in Livingston County to CLOSE at 6:00 p.m., TODAY

US 60 remains OPEN at this time with Water Over Road signs posted near the 16 mile marker and KY 137/River Road intersection in Livingston County. However, traffic will be restricted to one lane through this afternoon and the roadway is expected to close at 6:00 p.m., this evening

In an effort to maintain traffic, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will restrict traffic to one lane on US 60 at this site between Burna and Smithland starting around Noon, today. Motorists traveling US 60 will encounter one lane traffic with alternating flow from the KY 137/River Road “Y” intersection to the 16 mile marker near the west end of Joe Ward Flats.

Floodwaters are blocking the eastbound lane in the curve immediately at the KY 137/River Road intersection. Flagging traffic with alternating flow will help to maintain traffic flow through the afternoon.

Motorists traveling this section of US 60 should be alert for slowing and stopped traffic at this site. Caution is required where equipment and personnel are along the roadway in close proximity to traffic flow.

Due to rising river levels, US 60 will close at this site promptly at 6:00 p.m., CST, tonight. Once US 60 closes at this site between Burna and Smithland it is expected to remain closed until around March 9th, when the Ohio river is expected to drop enough to allow traffic to resume. The closure could be extended based on future changes in the river forecast.
