The final race of the season for the Marshall County Swim Team took place Friday and Saturday at the KHSAA Region 1 Championships held at the Paducah Athletic Club. Preliminaries were held on Friday to determine the top 16 in each event that would advance to Saturday’s finals. The bottom eight times swim in the Consolation race and the top eight in the Championship race. Top two finishers in each event automatically advance to the KHSAA State Swimming and Diving Championships and the remaining spots for state are filled with the top times throughout the state.
The Marshall County team set 21 different individual personal records during Friday’s Preliminaries and 10 personal records were set on Saturday in the finals. Those included Jaden Topper (200 and 50 freestyle), Madelyn Travis (200 IM), Andrew Wilson (100 freestyle), Clint Walker (100 freestyle), Sofia Bayer (100 backstroke), Maidie Siress (100 backstroke), Nikalai Bryan (100 backstroke), Ethan Delaney (100 backstroke) and Clint Walker (100 backstroke).
Madisonville North Hopkins won the Region 1 title in combined scoring and runner-up went to Hopkinsville. Marshall County placed fifth. Hopkinsville won the women’s title, McCracken County runner-up and Marshall County fifth. Madisonville North Hopkins won the men’s title, Murray runner-up and Marshall County sixth.
Marshall County had six seniors swim in their final meet at regionals – Madelyn Travis, Scarlett Wilkey, Ethan Delaney, Cameron Armstrong, Kyle Hall and Jason Sheridan.
