Marshals top Crittenden County 70-49

Tyler Stokes shoots over Crittenden County’s Preston Turley in the Marshals 70-49 win. Stokes ended with 15 points for the Marshals and led in scoring in both games in California with a combined 41 points.

Led by Tyler Powell’s 21 points, the Marshals broke their 3-game losing streak Tuesday at home in a 70-49 win over Crittenden County. The Marshals came up short in a combined 10 points in their last three losses, by four (66-62) to Tilghman and two 3-point losses in California to Bishop O’Dowd (Oakland, CA) and St. Patrick-St. Vincent (Vallejo, CA).

Two games in the Napa, CA area for the Marshals started Thursday against Bishop O’Dowd. The Marshals lost 66-63 and were led in scoring by Tyler Stokes with 18 points and 8 rebounds.

In their second west-coast game on Saturday, the Marshals played St. Patrick-St. Vincent falling 57-54, led again by Stokes with 23 points.

Tyler Powell’s 21 points led the Marshals in their win over Crittenden County. Powell was the second-leading scorer for the Marshals in California with 31 points in their two games.

Back on their home court Tuesday against Crittenden County (7-12), Marshall County handed the Rockets their 13th loss of the season while the Marshals record improved to 10-13.

Baskets from four different players – Bryce Flatt, Stokes, Powell and Dawson Smothers – gave the Marshals an early 8-0 lead before the Rockets got on the board with a 3-pointer by Gabe Mott. The Marshals finished out their first quarter scoring with three consecutive 3-pointers from Powell, Flatt and Jay Nimmo to lead 17-8.

Led by Flatt with seven second quarter points and five from Powell, the Marshals lead was 34-21 at halftime and they put up 27 points in the third quarter to stretch the lead out to 28 points, going on to win 70-49.

Preston Turley led Crittenden County in scoring with 19 points followed by Mott with 10.

Big home games are coming up for the Marshals this Friday against Graves County (18-6) and Saturday against McCracken County (21-3), both double-headers with the Lady Marshals starting at 6:00 and the Marshals tipping off at 7:30. Marshall County High School will celebrate Homecoming on Friday.
