Win over Livingston follows two tough road games for Lady Marshals

Cayson Conner led the Lady Marshals with 16 points against Sacred Heart and scored 13 in Monday’s win at Livingston Central.

Friday and Saturday, the Lady Marshals played two tough road games against two of the top girl’s teams in the state, #6 Sacred Heart and #14 Simon Kenton, according to the latest Cantrall ratings. They lost 73-54 to Sacred Heart and 62-52 to defending Region 8 champion Simon Kenton.

They trialed by just two points at the end of the first quarter against Sacred Heart but a big 25-point second quarter by the Valkyries behind 17 first half points from junior center Kristen Clemens gave them a 40-26 lead at halftime. Sacred Heard held the Lady Marshals to three third quarter points to extend their lead to 57-29.

Halle Langhi scored the first four points of the fourth quarter followed by four straight 3-pointers from Cayson Conner and Layne Pea to cut the Valkyries lead to 20 points, but with little time left to make a run, the Lady Marshals fell by 19 points at the final buzzer. Conner led the team with 16 points and 13 were scored by Tera Colson.
