Marshall 1 Special Olympics team splits double-header at Christian County

The B Division team of Marshall County Special Olympics Marshall 1 traveled to Christian County Jan. 12 to play a doubleheader against the Tigers and Colonels, two B Division teams. In game one, the Marshals played the Tigers close, trading baskets every trip down the floor and they were tied 8-8 at halftime. Christian County was up 14-12 at the end of the third quarter, and in the fourth quarter the Marshals defense held the Tigers to one basket. With a tie game and ball possession with the Marshals, Jennifer Irvan hit a basket with time running to win the game 18-16. The Marshals were led by Zach Haskins 8 points.

The Marshals played the Christian County Colonels in the second game of the day, another close game tied at the end of the first quarter on baskets by Irvan and Haskins added four points in the second quarter. Christian County tied it up 6-6 at halftime and came out hot in the third quarter, scoring 10 points to two for the Marshals, to lead 16-8. Scoring was close in the fourth quarter but the Marshals could not make up for the slow third quarter and Christian County pulls it out 20-14. Marshall County again was led by Haskins and Irvan scoring 4 points each. Daniel Austin, Kali Fountain, and Harli Hanisch added 2 points each.

Next for Marshall County Special Olympics – Marshall 2 hosts Murray Blue Jan. 17 at Marshall. Both teams travel to Caldwell County Saturday, Jan. 19. Marshall 1 plays Caldwell County at 11:00 a.m. and Trigg County at 1:00 p.m. Marshall 2 plays Progress Port from Carterville, IL at 10:00 a.m. and Christian County at 4:00. Games will be played at Caldwell County Middle School.
