Marshall County Fiscal Court awarded $366,000 in discretionary funds for critical bridge and road improvements

PADUCAH, Ky. (Oct. 30, 2018) – As part of Governor Matt Bevin’s commitment to asset management and increasing economic opportunity across the Commonwealth, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) has awarded $366,000 in discretionary funds to the Marshall County Fiscal Court for vital resurfacing work on Forest Road and the replacement of the Camp Creek Bridge on Calvert City Road.

“The Bevin Administration continues to focus on critical infrastructure needs at both the state and local level to improve roadway safety and support job creation and retention,” said KYTC Secretary Greg Thomas. “This discretionary funding award builds upon existing transportation investments and allows the Cabinet to collaborate with local governments to identify projects that will have a significant impact on our communities.”

Marshall County Judge-Executive Kevin Neal said without the discretionary funds it would be difficult for the county to complete both of these projects.

“I’d like to thank Governor Matt Bevin and Transportation Secretary Greg Thomas for $275,000 in discretionary funding that will cover the entire cost of a critical bridge project in Marshall County,” Judge-Executive Neal said. “We will replace a concrete bridge with a load rating of nine tons on Calvert City Road. This is a heavily traveled road used by residents and businesses. We are thankful for these funds, along with the $91,000 awarded to resurface Forest Road, and the relief this offers our infrastructure budget.”

Projects submitted to the Department of Rural and Municipal Aid for discretionary fund consideration were evaluated by the KYTC District 1 engineering staff to assess the condition of roads and determine the most critical needs based on factors such as safety, economic impact, and traffic volumes.

“Maintaining safe roadways is crucial to our local economy,” Senator Danny Carroll said. “These road projects will no doubt benefit the people of Marshall County.”

The Marshall County Fiscal Court is responsible for administering the work, and KYTC will reimburse the county for the projects.

Funding will address:

  • Resurfacing Forest Road (County Road 1125) from milepoint 0.0 to milepoint 1.152
  • Camp Creek Bridge replacement on Calvert City Road (CR 1374) 1.2 miles east of KY 1523
