Marcella’s Kitchen Targeted a Third Time

After two separate theft occurrences early last week, Marcella’s Kitchen volunteers arrived at the kitchen to find evidence of  further mischief Monday morning.

Marcella Perkins, founder of Marcella’s Kitchen, says when she arrived to begin lunch preparations, all of the outdoor property was misplaced. Large wooden picnic tables that are under a shelter next to the building were pulled out into the parking lot, chairs were flipped over and tossed into the woods and boxes were scattered around the property. Luckily this time nothing was taken due to the new locks on the outdoor building after last week’s thefts.

Large amounts of food were stolen last week including meats and eggs during the first incident. The next day volunteers arrived to find that additional items had been taken including large bags of cheese and sheet cakes that had been prepared for the next days meal. Perkins says she was able to tell exactly what had been taken each time as they had just taken inventory of all of their supplies.

The group replaced locks with more secure versions and are now having to consider adding security cameras to the property.

“I’m sure Mrs. Perkins would have gladly given that to anybody if they’d have just asked for it instead of breaking in.” Sheriff Kevin Byars commented.

Reports have been filed with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office and they are aware of the situation “We’re trying to do as much as we can, as much as our call volume will allow us to do. If someone would just stop and think, what does that place do? It helps the community. Why would you want to damage something that helps the people of this community?” Byars added.

There are no suspects at this time, however, there is speculation that juveniles may have been involved as the incidents all occurred during fall break.
