Marshals tie, Lady Marshals win, in final regular season games

The Lady Marshals and Marshals wrapped up their regular seasons Tuesday. The girls defeated McCracken County 2-0 while the boys game ended in a 3-3 tie against Henderson County giving them a record of 16-3-1, their best regular season record since the 2014 season.

The Marshals finish with a 10-2 record against regional opponents and 6-2 in against district two opponents, their only district losses to Murray High who they will meet again in next week’s district tournament to be held at Marshall County.

Henderson got on the board first just over five minutes in, equaled on a goal by Austin Stockdale at the midway point of the first half. The Colonels went up 2-1 five minutes before the half, scoring on a penalty kick taken right in front of the goal by Max Wawrin after a foul on the Marshals in the box.

Another goal by Wawrin at the 27 minute mark in the second half put Henderson County up 3-1 before the Marshals tied the game on two goals, the first by Daniel Gardner at 23:41 and the second from Bryson Penn with 9:16 left in the game.

The three goals brought the Marshals goal tally for the season to 100 while only allowing 22 goals from their opponents.

Carmen Gunn scored both of the Lady Marshals goals in their shut out over McCracken County.

The Lady Marshals 2-0 win over the Lady Mustangs wrapped up the regular season with a shut-out and a 10-7-0 record. The team took 13 shots, eight on goal with four corners holding McCracken County to just three shots, one on goal and four corners. This was goal keeper Carlen Whirley’s sixth shut-out of the season.

Both goals came from Carmen Gunn in the second half, the first eight minutes in on an assist by Loralei Samson and the second almost 16 minutes into the half on an assist by Kylee Crass, giving Gunn 21 goals in the regular season.

The Lady Marshals will meet Calloway County in the district tournament next week, a team they have beat twice this season by one goal.
