KY 1954/Husbands Rd & Clarkline Rd to Close at Paducah Floodwall Crossing in McCracken Co. Starting Oct 8th

A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to CLOSE a section of KY 1954/Husbands Road and Clarkline Road where the intersect near the Paducah Floodwall in McCracken County starting Monday, October 8, 2018.

KY 1954/Husbands Road and Clarkline Road in McCracken County will be closed where they meet immediately north of the Paducah Floodwall. This closure is along KY 1954/Husbands Road at milepoint 2.929 about ½ mile south of the I-24 Exit 11 Interchange.

Both KY 1954/Husbands Road and Clarkline Road are expected to be closed at the floodwall for about 4 weeks, weather permitting.

There will be a marked detour for KY 1954/Husbands Rd via KY 450/Oaks Road. Clarkline Road will be signed as dead end where it connects to KY 994/Old Mayfield Road until this phase of work is completed.

This work is part of an ongoing Highway Safety Improvement Project (HSIP) along KY 1954/Husbands Road running from KY 348/Hardmoney Road at milepoint 0.0 extending northward to milepoint 3.04 just north of the Clarkline Road intersection. It includes improving roadway alignment at the Clarkline Road intersection and the Paducah Floodwall crossing, as well as additional shoulder and cross drain improvements along the remainder of KY 1954/Husbands Road in the project area.

This 3-mile section of KY 1954/Husbands Road was selected for safety improvements due to the crash history. A study found 18 reported crashes, 7 with injuries, at the KY 1954 intersection with Clark Line Road at the Paducah Floodwall. Based on the frequency guardrail had to be replaced, there were likely a number of unreported crashes at this intersection at the north end of the project area. Police reports indicated another 5 crashes with one reported injury near the KY 1954/Husbands Road intersection with KY 999/Kreb Station Road at the S curve.  Another 11 crashes with 5 injuries were reported along the project area between KY 348/Hardmoney Road and the KY 999/Kreb Station Road intersection.

Jim Smith Contracting Company, LLC, is the prime contractor on this $1.68 million safety improvement project. The target completion date is January 15, 2019.
