Lady Marshals win Regional Championship

The Lady Marshals win their second straight regional championship Monday at the Paducah Country Club.

Marshall County girl’s golf team successfully defended their title as regional champions Monday in a rain-soaked Regional Tournament at Paducah Country Club. The girls took first by five strokes over McCracken County and the two teams will advance to the KHSAA State Golf Championships in Bowling Green October 1-3.

A difficult day for all players between downpours and delays, at the end of the 18 hole round, the Lady Marshals team score of 346 earned them the regional title and trip to state. McCracken County finished second with 351 and third to Graves County with 362.

Hallie Riley led the Lady Marshals with a round of 81 followed by Megan Hertter with 83, Savannah Howell shot 89, Sydney Phillips 93 and Kenley Luksic 102.

Graves County’s Nicole Taylor and McCracken County’s Jessica Stephens both ended the day with 77 which led to a play-off to determine the individual regional champion, which Taylor won in a one-hole playoff. Riley finished in a three-way tie for third with Murray’s Mary Browder Howell and Crittenden County’s Lauren Gilchrist. Hertter finished sixth overall, St. Mary’s Margaret Butts was seventh and Caldwell County’s Campbell Knoth eighth.
