Lady Marshals shut out Murray 2-0

Marshall County mid-fielder Chasse Clark works the ball around Murray’s Echo Falwell in Tuesday’s 2nd District game.

After a disappointing loss to Murray August 28th, the Lady Marshals evened things up with a 2-0 win over the Lady Tigers at Colburn Stadium in a very physical game that traditionally comes with the territory in 2nd District match-ups.

“We played hard but we didn’t exactly execute what we wanted to do in terms of getting forward and getting as many opportunities as we would have liked”, Head Coach Michael Boone said. “Defensively we hung tough, Parker (Greer) is a load and we were able to keep her to a couple of shots.”

Boone was proud of his team’s effort and happy with the win after losing to Murray 2-1 in the first of their two district games. A very physical game Boone said they prepare for by playing physical teams in their schedule so they’re ready in post season play.

Carmen Gunn scored the Lady Marshals first goal 22:40 into the first half on an assist from Kylee Crass. The score would remain 1-0 until the final two minutes of the game when Gunn got her second goal, scoring on a penalty kick after a foul in the box.

The Lady Marshals took 11 shots in the game, five on goal and had six corners. Murray had six shots, two on goal and four corners. Carlen Whirley had two saves and Murray’s keeper had three saves. The Lady Marshals improved to 7-4 and are 4-1 in district play. Murray drops to 5-7 and 2-3 in the 2nd District.
