Marshals face top teams in the state at Bowling Green

Jay Nimmo, pictured at the Marshall County Invitational, led the Marshals with an even par 72 at Bowling Green.

The Marshals played in the Bowling Green Invitational held at Bowling Green Country Club (par 72) Saturday. Mother nature had most players and coaches wondering if the tournament would be completed or not but clear to partly cloudy skies remained for the whole round. Course conditions were great which only helped to make it feel more like a state tournament setting.

The Marshals finished in eighth place out of a field of 20 teams. The field included many of the top rated teams in the state of Kentucky. The Marshals team score was 322. St. Xavier took the win with a score of 286 followed by Taylor County’s team score of 298.

Campbell Kremer of St. Xavier was the individual medalist as a result of a playoff with two other players, Collier Curd of Bowling Green and teammate Andrew Sullivan of St. Xavier. All three players shot 71 (one under par). Marshall County’s Jay Nimmo tied for fourth place with a score of 72 with three other players, Owen Stamper of Allen Co.-Scottsville, Robbie Bender and Drew Doyle both from St. Xavier.

Behind Nimmo’s 72, Tyler Powell shot 74, Camdyn McLeod 85, Trey Wall 91 and Nathan Clark 94.

“I was proud of players on how they competed with the top players and teams in the state, especially on the course where the state tournament championship will be played”, Coach Keith Bell said. “I know we have better golf in our team but the experience of playing should prove beneficial in the post season. Jay and Tyler had solid rounds of 72 and 74 respectively. Both of these players have been playing some really consistent golf throughout the season. Currently, Tyler is #20 in the state in “all state points” and Jay is right behind at #21. Both players have tournaments who have still not reported all state points earned from those tournaments. I feel both will be in the top 10 before the season is over.”

“Camdyn, Trey and Nathan grinded through their rounds. All three had spurts where they put 3 to 4 good holes together but then each experienced a tough hole which hurt their round. I still go back to the experience they got from playing at Bowling Green Country Club will be very beneficial down the road”, Bell said.
