Cross Country teams second at Madisonville Maroon Classic

Both the girl’s and boy’s Marshall County cross country teams opened the season with second place finishes at the Madisonville-North Hopkins Maroon Classic.

Cross Country opened their season Saturday at the Madisonville-North Hopkins Maroon Classic and came away with two second place trophies. Both the boy’s and girl’s teams came in second to Madisonville-North Hopkins. Rounding out the top five teams for the girl’s, third went to Hancock County, fourth Trigg County and fifth Webster County. Among 11 teams in the boy’s varsity division, behind Madisonville and Marshall County, Muhlenburg County took third, Webster County fourth and Ohio County fifth.

Madisonville took first and second in both varsity races, sealing the win in the first meet of the season. On the girl’s side, Joy Alexander placed first and Abby Harris second, navigating the 5K course with times of 20:21.92 and 21:12.95.

The top finisher for the Lady Marshals was Gabbi Lovett in seventh with 22:26.28. The top five MCHS finishers following Lovett were; 9th Alexia Minter (22:36.84), 14th Tarryn Story (23:44.06), 24th Leah Vincek (25:30.19), 25th Zoie Swoope (25:32.42). Finishing out the girl’s results in a field of 64; 28 Hannah Perry, 30 Kaycee Kemp, 36 Chloe Newton, 43 Bella Barrett.

Christian Parker and Garrett Watts took first and second for the Maroons in 16:00.94 and 16:19.00. Top finisher for the Marshals was Mason Cosner in fifth with a time of 17:17.66. Behind Cosner with the top five finishes; 7th Christian Cosner (17:35.91), 10th Ethan McCarty (17:49.94), 13th Knox Sandlin (18:18.57), Jackson Miller (18:30.79). More boy’s results in the varsity field of 112; 17 Ethan Dowell, 21 Cole Wyatt, 27 Cade Flatt, 34 Isaish Kirby, 56 Devan Bradley, 58 Justin Wilson, 68 Will Davis, 75 Avery Minter, 103 Grady Ward.
