Lady Marshals, Marshals sweep district games over Calloway County

Kylee Crass, pictured here against Graves County Tuesday, scored the Lady Marshals only goal in their win over Calloway County.

Kylee Crass scored a goal late in the first half in the Lady Marshals game at Calloway County and that was all it would take to pick up the 1-0 district win. In all, 17 fouls were called in the physical game, 10 on Marshall County and seven on Calloway County. Shots were even on both sides, 15 taken by the Lady Marshals, 12 of those on goal while 16 shots were taken by the Lady Lakers and 12 of those on goal.

Calloway County’s last win over Marshall County came in 2013. The win improves the Lady Marshals record to 4-1.

The Marshals last win over Calloway County came early in the 2016 season so their 3-2 win over the current #6 ranked Lakers was that much sweeter. The first point on the board was scored by Bryson Penn over 25 minutes into the first half and they took that 1-0 lead into halftime.

Jacob Smith tied the game four minutes into the second half for the Lakers but three minutes later, Penn scored his second goal of the game for a 2-1 Marshall County lead. Smith again, ties the game on a penalty kick following a foul in the box on the Marshals. Penn scored the game-winner at the halfway point in the second half recording his fifth hat-trick in the Marshals first seven games. The Marshals improve to 6-1.
