Night detour of I-24 westbound lanes at Purchase Parkway Exit 25

A contractor expects to complete removal of temporary barrier walls along the eastbound lanes of I-24 in the in the I-24/Purchase Parkway Exit 25 Interchange Work Zone by 6:00 a.m., CDT, on Wednesday, June 6th.

Completion of barrier wall removal along the eastbound lanes will allow the contractor to begin removal of temporary barrier wall along the WESTBOUND lanes of I-24 in the I-24/Purchase Parkway Exit 25 Interchange Work Zone starting WEDNESDAY NIGHT, June 6, 2018.

This night detour for WESTBOUND I-24 traffic is expected to be in place from approximately 9:00 p.m., CDT, to about 6:00 a.m., the following morning each night for about a week to allow removal of temporary barrier walls along the WESTBOUND lanes through the work zone.

To facilitate the work, WESTBOUND I-24 traffic will be detoured temporarily via the US 62 Calvert City Exit 27 Interchange along US 62 Westbound to the Purchase Parkway SOUTHBOUND lanes to return to I-24 via the EXIT 25 Interchange. Message boards will direct traffic along the detour and police will be available to assist as needed.

This work to remove the temporary barrier wall along the WESTBOUND lanes of I-24 through the work zone is expected to continue nightly for approximately one week.

Again, this overnight detour will be in place from approximately 9:00 p.m., CDT, and 6:00 a.m., the following morning, for about one week anytime weather permits.

As a reminder, this continues to be an active work zone during daylight hours. The contractor has ongoing ramp work, as well as landscaping and final asphalt paving planned along the project area.

Motorists who plan to travel Westbound through the I-24/Purchase Parkway Exit 25 Interchange Work Zone during the next week should be aware of this overnight detour and use appropriate caution. Some overnight delays are possible while the temporary detour is in place. Local motorists should be aware that this rerouting of I-24
westbound traffic will create heavy westbound traffic along US 62 at Calvert City between the I-24 Exit 27 Interchange and the Purchase Parkway.

The I-24/Purchase Parkway Exit 25 work zone runs along I-24 in Marshall County between the 25 and 27 mile marker and along the Purchase Parkway between the 49 and 52 mile marker at the I-24/Purchase Parkway Exit 25 Interchange. Reconstruction of the Exit 25 interchange is aimed at allowing I-69 to be extended southward along the
parkway in the future.

This work zone includes a 55 mile per hour speed limit with an enhanced enforcement presence and double fines for citations.

Jim Smith Contracting of Grand Rivers is the prime contractor on the $37.8 million interchange reconstruction project. The project is approximately 85% complete. The new I-24/I-69 interchange at Calvert City has a target completion date of July 1, 2018.
