Gracey Murt’s 2-run home run in the first inning was the start of a 10-0 shut out win in five innings over Murray for the 4th District Championship. Aubree Jo Kemp threw the shut out win, allowing just one hit while striking out 10.
A single by Presley Jezik scored a run in the bottom of the fourth before their big 7-run fifth inning which began with the bases loaded. McKenzie Tack scored on a wild pitch, followed by a 2-run single by Addie Young, 2-run single by Riley Piercefield, a run scored by Charley Pursley on a wild pitch and the 10th run scored by Jezik on a wild pitch.
I’m very proud of the girls, not just for this game, but this entire season”, Head Coach Mallory Newton said. “They’ve had some big top 10 wins and we’re ranked higher than we’ve ever been. The girls have shown a lot of grit.”
The first-year coach said that her players have bought into a new coaching staff and she couldn’t be more proud of everything they have shown this season.
“They’re just aggressive, competitive and they want it and that’s what I love about these girls”, Newton said. “They are just completely invested…that’s our word this year…and you can tell from the get-go, they’re invested…they’re all in.”
The Lady Marshals last 4th District title came in 2016 over Murray. Both teams will move on to next week’s regional tournament.
