Lady Marshals win two Saturday, finish regular season 24-8

In two games on Saturday, Cayson Conner was 4 for 5 with two doubles and four RBI’s against Hickman County and went 2 for 3 with an RBI against South Warren.

The #12 Lady Marshals wrapped up their regular softball season with two wins Saturday over Hickman County and South Warren to improve to 24-8. The 4th District Tournament begins today hosted by Marshall County, with Murray and Calloway County playing at 5:00 and the winner moving on to play Marshall County in Tuesday’s championship game at 5:00.

Both teams combined for 30 hits Saturday in the Lady Marshals 13-9 defeat of Hickman County. In the bottom of the fourth, a walk by Sarenna Tomassi and single by Cayson Conner set up a 4-run inning with scoring coming on a ground out by Presley Jezik and singles by Gracey Murt, Riley Piercefield and Addie Young.

Holding on to an 8-6 lead going into the bottom of the fifth, the Lady Marshals put five runs on the board after loading the bases with singles by Kinley Edwards, Kylee Meeks and Tomassi. Runs scored on a 3-run double by Conner, bunt from Charley Pursley and single by Young on their way to the 13-9 win on 17 hits.

Shelby Wadkins got the win in four innings, allowing eight hits, six runs and struck out one.

In game two Saturday, the Lady Marshals defeated South Warren 5-2, scoring a run in the first inning on a double by Murt, three in the third came on a single by Conner, Murt’s second double of the game and a double by Young with the final run coming in the fifth on a sacrifice by Young.

Aubree Jo Kemp pitched all five innings, allowing two hits, two runs and struck out five.
