Marshall County medals in six events, Tori McCracken high jump state champ

Forty-one Marshall County track and field athletes traveled to Lexington for Saturday’s Class 3A State Track and Field Championships, some automatic qualifiers, some qualifying with the next 10 best times and results in the state and several alternates.

The team finished with 10 top ten results highlighted by freshman Tori McCracken’s state title in the high jump, clearing 5-02 on her first attempt at that height for the win. The top eight in each event earned points and were honored at the medal stand for their achievement.

Trinity (Louisville) won the boy’s team state title with 87 points over second place St. Xavier with 60 points and Male took third with 56 points. Marshall County and Daviess County tied at 10th with 10 points each. Male won the girl’s state team title with 75.50 points over Tates Creek with 71 points, Dupont Manual in third with 57.50 points and Marshall County girls 19th with 11 points.

A new state Class 3A record was set by Graves County’s Sofie Galloway in the triple jump with 38-10.00, breaking the 2001 record of 38-02. Galloway also won the state title in the long jump with 18-04.

Senior Zach Fiser placed fifth in the discus with a throw of 133-01 and 16th in shot put with 41-09.25.
Cade Flatt, an eighth grader, placed sixth in the 800 meters with a time of 1:59.95.
Junior Bryce Ladd placed seventh in the state in the pole vault with 12-06.
Eighth grader, Caleb Pahl, took eighth in the pole vault with 12-00.
