Marshall County softball defeats Graves County, Goreville, IL

Aubree Jo Kemp earned two wins on the mound, Monday against Graves County and Tuesday against Goreville, IL.

Wins over Graves County and Goreville, IL Monday and Tuesday improved the #16 Lady Marshals record to 19-6 before heading to Buchanon Park in Bowling Green for the Best of the West for three games against top 10 teams, starting Friday against #10 Holy Cross (Louisville) and Saturday against #3 Ballard and #8 Apollo.

The Lady Marshals hosted Graves County (14-7) Monday, defeating the Lady Eagles 7-2 on seven hits. Sarenna Tomassi wasted no time at the plate, hitting a lead-off home run to start the game, followed by a double by Charley Pursley, single by Cayson Conner and double from Presley Jezik to put the Lady Marshals up 4-0 in the first inning.

Graves County scored their first run of the game in the fourth inning on a sacrifice bunt by Kristen Wimsatt.

A run in the fifth on a sacrifice by Conner put the Lady Marshals up 5-1, followed by an RBI double by Graves County’s Chloe Grover to cut the lead to 5-2.

The Lady Marshals put up two runs in the sixth inning, scoring both on a single by Riley Piercefield for the 10-2 win. Aubree Jo Kemp earned the win in three innings, allowing no hits and no runs.

Gracey Murt hit a 3-run triple in the second inning and 2-run homer in the sixth, scoring half of the Lady Marshals runs in their 10-3 win Tuesday over Goreville, IL. Playing at John A. Logan Community College in Carterville, IL, their 6-inning win came on 10 hits and the win was earned on the mound by Kemp who allowed six hits, three runs and struck out four.

Riley Piercefield picked up three RBI’s in the Lady Marshals games on Monday and Tuesday.

An early 2-0 lead came on an error and ground out by Piercefield. Goreville scored a run in the first inning to get on the board before the Lady Marshals put together a 6-run second inning, scoring on a bunt by MacKenzie Tack, Tomassi single, Pursley single, Murt’s 3-run triple and passed ball by the catcher.

Goreville scored runs in the bottom of the second and bottom of the fifth to cut the Lady Marshals lead to 8-3 before Murt’s 2-run home run in the sixth put the game away.
