Marshall hosts double quad meet, prepare for Area I Championships Saturday

Audrey Grizzard took first in the 100 meters at Tuesday’s double quad meet hosted by Marshall County.

Marshall County hosted 12 teams in a double quad meet Tuesday at South Marshall Middle School. Marshall County’s boys took first, West Creek, TN second and McCracken County third. The Marshall County girl’s placed first, Trigg County second and Crittenden County third.

Six first place finishes were claimed for the Marshall County girls – Audrey Grizzard (100 meters), Kaylee Blackford (300 hurdles), Tori McCracken (high jump), Sydney Temple (pole vault), Emily Colley (shot) and Abigail Oakley (discus).

Seven first place finishes for the boys included Wade Derington (200 meters), Bryce Flatt (800 meters), Justin Wilson (110 high hurdles), 4 x 200 relay team, 4 x 800 relay team, Bryce Ladd (pole vault) and Austin Clark (shot).

Cade Flatt finished second behind West Creek senior Jordan Worner in the 400 meters, just three-tenths off the MCHS 400 meter record.

Cade Flatt’s 400 meter second place behind West Creek, Tenn., Jordan Worner with a time of 50.48, was just three-tenths off of breaking the Marshall County record. Worner’s time of 50.40 was a personal best for the senior from Clarksville. Flatt, just an eighth grader, broke a 30-year school record in the 800 meters last Saturday at Paducah Tilghman.

Audrey Grizzard, Marshall’s top-ranked pole vaulter finishing second in the meet behind teammate Sydney Temple, slipped smoothly into the running events, claiming first in the 100 meters and fourth in the 400 meters. Temple also placed second in the triple jump.

Marshall’s throwers continue to rack up points for the team. Austin Clark took first in shot put and third in discus while the girls claimed the first three spots in both the shot put and discus events. Emily Colley took first in shot and second in discus, switching places with teammate Abigail Oakley who was second in shot and first in discus.

The Marshals took first and second in both the boy’s and girl’s pole vault. Temple and Grizzard were first and second for the girls, Bryce Ladd first and Caleb Pahl second for the boys.

Jackson Brown took a break from the 110 and 300 high hurdles and placed third in the 200 meters behind Wade Derington’s first place finish. Fellow hurdler, Justin Wilson, filled in nicely for Brown taking first in the 110 high hurdles and second in the 300 high hurdles. Kaylee Blackford placed first in the 300 hurdles and Kelyn Mannon second in the 100 hurdles for the girls.

The team will compete in the Area I Championships at Fort Campbell High School on Saturday at 5:00.
