Marshals looking for win in final game Saturday at USA High School Classic

Ty Buchmeier, pictured here earlier this season, recorded seven hits for the Marshals in Millington, TN in three games, including a double, triple and two RBI’s.

The Marshals are playing in the USA High School Classic in Millington, TN with a four game schedule that began on Wednesday against Brighton, TN. Brighton won 21-6 on 13 hits, the Marshals had 11 hits and four errors and were led in hitting by CJ Johnson who went 2 for 4 with two RBI’s and Tyler Belcher who was also 2 for 4 with two RBI’s.

Trailing 8-0 after two innings, the Marshals put five runs up in the bottom of the third. Those runs came on a 2-run single by Belcher, 1 run singles by Jackson Beal and Ty Buchmeier and an RBI ground out by Johnson to cut Brighton’s lead to 8-5. They added one more run in the fifth inning on a single by Johnson to cut it to 8-6.

Brighton scored 13 runs in the top of the sixth inning, 12 of the 13 coming before the Marshals could record the first out.
Brighton’s pitcher was on the mound all six innings, striking out eight.

In their first of two games Thursday, the Marshals fell to Calera, AL 6-3. The Marshals led off with a run in the first inning, scoring on a single by Andersson. The lead didn’t last long as Calera scored four runs on two outs in the bottom of the first, scoring on a walk, passed ball by the catcher and 2-run single. The Marshals cut it to a 1-run game, scoring two runs in the fifth on a single by Andersson and a bases loaded walk.

Calera scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth on a sacrifice fly and single to hold on to the 6-3 win.
Buchmeier and Johnson both hit doubles with RBI’s from Andersson with two and Jordan Riley with one.

The Marshals fell to St. Benedict at Auburndale, TN 15-10 in the second game on Thursday. An early 2-0 lead by St. Benedict was tied up by the Marshals in their first at-bat on an RBI by Dawson Smothers and single by Andersson.

St. Benedict briefly took a 1-run lead in the top of the second before the Marshals scored three runs to lead 5-3 on a single by Buchmeier, RBI by Johnson and RBI by Smothers. St. Benedict tied the game at 5-all in the top of the fourth before the Marshals put together a 4-run bottom of the fourth on an RBI by Griggs, 1-run single by Andersson, bases loaded walk by Skyler Brown and bases loaded walk by Beal to lead 9-5.

St. Benedict scored three runs in the fifth and two in the sixth to take a 10-9 lead and the Marshals tied the game up with a run in the bottom of the seventh on a single by Andersson that sent the game into an extra inning. St. Benedict scored five runs in the eighth to put the game away scoring two runs on an error on a bunt, single and 2-run double.

The Marshals final game in Millington will be played at noon on Saturday.
