Marshals blow out Russellville, University Heights in games Saturday

Jackson Beal was 2 for 2 with a triple and 6 RBIs against Russellville and followed that with a 3 for 4 game with a triple and 2 RBIs against UHA on Saturday.

The Marshall County baseball team improved to 4-1 following two wins on Saturday, 34-2 over Russellville and 21-3 over University Heights. In the 1:00 game against Russellville, the Marshals scored their 34 runs on 17 hits led by Skyler Brown who went 2 for 3 with a double, home run and 3 RBI’s, Jackson Beal went 2 for 2 with a triple and 6 RBI’s, Dawson Smothers was 3 for 3 with a double and 2 RBI’s, Austin Stockdale went 3 for 3 with three doubles and 3 RBI’s and Ty Buchmeier was 3 for 4 with 3 RBI’s. Brock Anderson, Skyler Smith and Brian Westfall combined for 11 strike outs while the three Russellville pitchers walked 17 Marshall batters.

Brock Anderson got the win in the Marshals 34-2 win over Russellville in two innings on the mound, giving up three hits, no runs, no walks and three strike outs.

Highlights included Beal’s triple that scored three runs in the first inning, Brown’s 2-run homer in the fourth inning added the final two runs in the 34-2 win and sandwiched between were two 12-run innings.

The Marshals followed their 34 runs against Russellville in the next game with a 21-run game against University Heights on 17 hits. The Blazers led 1-0 early but the Marshals scored the next 15 straight over the first three innings to lead 15-1. A 2-run single by Jordan Riley put the Marshals up 2-1 in the first inning and they followed that up with a 6-run second inning with scoring coming from a steal of home plate by Buchmeier, 2-run hit by Smothers, a walk and 1-run singles by Tyler Belcher and Stockdale.

They added seven more runs in the third on a single by Griggs, run scored on a passed ball, 2-run double by Belcher, 2-run triple by Beal and Beal reaching home on a ground out by Buchmeier. In their final at bat in the fourth inning, the Marshals added six more runs on a singles by Dalton Andersson and Stockdale, bases loaded walk, 2-run double by Cole Griggs and a passed ball for the 21-3 final.

Leading hitters were Griggs 3 for 4 with two doubles and 3 RBIs, Beal 3 for 4 with a triple and 2 RBIs, Belcher 3 for 4 with a double and 3 RBIs, Smothers 3 for 3 with 2 RBIs and Stockdale 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs. Skyler Brown got the win on the mound in four inning of work, striking out seven.

The Marshals will play in the USA Classic Baseball Tournament April 4-7 in Millington, TN.
