Marshall County High School senior Blain Bizzle joined a select group learning about the form and function of the nation’s democracy.

Bizzle was selected as one of less than 100 students to attend the American Legion’s 2018 Boys Nation in Washington, D.C.

“While I was at our nation’s capitol, I got the very, very great honor of meeting the President of the United States, Donald Trump,” Bizzle said. “That was a great experience. I also got to tour Capitol Hill and meet Kentucky’s senators. It was an amazing experience that’s absolutely shaped the rest of my life.”

Bizzle has since been recognized by the state senate and Kentucky Treasurer Allison Ball. His achievement was not by the Marshall County Board of Education earlier this week.

Boys State is a week-long event, promoting good citizenship and teaching the fundamentals of governmental operations. An American Legion program, Boys State has given more than 20,000 young men hands on experience of how government functions. Building off that is Boys Nation, where two representatives are chosen from each of the participating 49 member states.

Bizzle became interested in Boys State the summer before his sophomore year at MCHS, applying the summer after his junior year. Bizzle was accepted and took part in the program at Campbellsville University.

Bizzle said he was chosen as party chairman after participants separated into two groups.

“Afterwards we selected constitutional officers,” Bizzle said. “One of them was treasurer. I ran for that and was accepted as the state treasurer.”
