Marshall County Sheriff’s Report March 19, 2018

On March 16th, Deputy Lofton Rowley served an arrest warrant to Michael E. Lawrence of Calvert City for Contempt of Court.

On Friday March 16th Deputy Chris Greenfield was dispatched to the area south of the 47 MM on the Purchase Parkway in reference to a vehicle collision. Upon arrival, Deputy Greenfield spoke to a witness that confirmed that a vehicle operated by Tyrian Serrano 21, of Union City, TN, had began to spin striking a guardrail before coming to rest along the side of the roadway. Deputies could smell an odor of marijuana in the vehicle and located a marijuana roach in the passenger seat. When Serrano was asked about the marijuana she stated she had smoked prior to driving. When asked about anything else illegal in the car and she said she had a bag of marijuana in her purse. Serrano was arrested and charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence 1st Offense, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Failure of Owner to Maintain Required Insurance.

On Sunday March 18th Deputy Lofton Rowley was dispatched to the Purchase Parkway northbound at MM 50 in reference to a single vehicle accident. Caleb A. Wilkerson 23, of Rantoul, IL, was operating the vehicle when he said that someone came into his lane forcing him off the roadway. A strong odor of alcohol was present on Wilkerson when Deputy Rowley made contact with him. Wilkerson stated that he had a couple drinks earlier. Wilkerson was arrested and charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence 1st Offense and Failure of Non-Owner to Maintain Required Insurance.

For the week of March 12th through March 19th the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following: 22 Traffic Accidents, 25 Traffic Stops, 7 Motorist Assists, 2 DUI’s, 2 Reckless Drivers, 162 Extra Patrol requests, 4 Animal Complaints, 2 Assaults, 5 Burglary/Theft reports, 7 Disturbances, 6 Domestic Disturbances, 14 Investigations, 2 Drug Investigations, 1 Public Intoxication, 5 Suspicious Persons, 7 Suspicious Vehicles, 25 Have a Deputy Call, 12 Warrants Served, 10 Civils Served and 7 Welfare Checks.

The Marshall County Court Security attended 15 court sessions, moved 41 inmates to and from court, checked 2756 people into the judicial building, transported 12 adult prisoners out of the county, 4 juvenile transports and completed 61 vehicle inspections.

On Friday March 16th around 10:00 pm Deputies responded to US 68 W in reference to a one vehicle accident with injuries. The vehicle had flipped several times causing the driver to be ejected from the vehicle. Bailey E. Averitt 40, of Benton, was airlifted from the scene to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, TN. We were then notified a few hours later that Mr. Averitt had passed away due to his injuries.
